Part Number: AAM-826
Originally produced in the Springfield and Harpers Ferry arsenals, the U.S. 1816 musket was turned out in large quantities. Borrowing from the design of the famous 1777 French muskets, three major variations of the 1816 model were produced during the period of manufacture from 1816 to 1844. Manufactured with flint ignition, most muskets were later converted to percussion, for use during our Civil War. This particular musket, marked and dated Springfield 1839 appears to be in original flintlock condition.

Stocked in American walnut the gun is trimmed in iron furniture that, when new, was polished armory bright. Over the past 160+ years a few speckles of patina have set into the furniture, lock and barrel; additionally the barrel is slightly pitted around the vent hole from firing.

The .69 caliber bore of the musket has a frosted appearance with a few scattered dark spots. Offered as a serviceable antique, we have not proof tested this gun. We always recommend that you fire your maximum load, remotely, to prove any antique gun safe to your satisfaction. Never load modern steel shot into any antique gun, use lead shot where legal or non-toxic bismuth shot when required for hunting waterfowl.

With an overall weight of 9.3 pounds the musket has a trigger reach of 13-1/4."
