Assembled and signed by contemporary builder G. L. Jones this 20 gauge smoothbore is stocked in maple, trimmed in brass furniture. with a L&R Classic flintlock and swamped octagon barrel. This smoothbore is shaped as a Lancaster County, Pennsylvania influenced rifle rather than a classic fowler design. Used, this smoothbore has some handling marks on the stock, patina on the brass furniture, and normal wear on the browned finish.
The 20 gauge swamped barrel has a .625" diameter smoothbore. The swamped barrel is thickest at the breech for strength, tapers to a narrow waist to reduce weight, and flares at the muzzle to align the sights. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. The .625" diameter smoothbore can be used with a patched round ball, or loaded with lead or bismuth shot. We recommend our 19 gauge cards and wads for use with shot. We recommend using a .595" ball with .015" patch or a .610" ball in a paper cartridge, using the cartridge paper as a wad, with no patch.
